There is good news: if there is a chance that no one will be available to accept the package you are sending, you do have options to consider.
No one is available to accept my package, what do I do?
If there’s a chance that no one will be available to accept the package you are sending, you do have options to consider.
The first option is to ship your package to a Purolator depot and have it held for pick up. When creating the waybill in FlagShip’s online shipping system enter the receiver’s information as follows:
Company: HFP c/o Purolator
Attention: The name of the person who will be picking up the package
Address: The address of the Purolator depot where you want the package held
Phone No: The phone number of the person who will be picking up the package. Purolator will contact them when the package is available to be picked up.
How can you find the nearest Purolator depot? Simply go to http://www.purolator.com, put your mouse on Ship & Track, and select Find Location. Enter the receiver’s postal code and it will automatically bring up the closest depots. Or call FlagShip at 1-866-320-8383 and one of the customer service representatives will be happy to help you.
If the package is already in transit, but no one will be home when the delivery is attempted, the driver will leave a message at the door explaining how the package can be picked up at the nearest depot.
The second option is to use FedEx hold for pick up, for your package to be held at a FedEx depot where the service is available. When creating the waybill in FlagShip’s online shipping system enter the receiver’s information as follows:
Company: HFP c/o FedEx Depot
Attention: The name of the person who will be picking up the package
Address: The address of the FedEx depot where you want the package held
Phone No: The phone number of the person who will be picking up the package. FedEx will contact them when the package is available to be picked up.
How can you find the nearest FedEx depot? Simply go to https://local.fedex.com/en-ca, enter the receiver’s postal code in the search bar at the top and it will automatically bring up the closest depots then you must filter by hold for pick up to find the depot that allows this service. Or call FlagShip at 1-866-320-8383 and one of the customer service representatives will be happy to help you, you can find a location here.
UPS does not have the option to hold for pick up at the depot. After the first delivery attempt is made, then the package will be available at the depot for pick up. The driver will leave a notification that the attempt was made and how to make arrangements for it to be picked up.
If the option for no signature required was chosen and the driver determines that the location is safe, the package will be left at the door if no one is home. If the driver does not feel that it is safe to leave the package, then it will be brought to the depot even though the shipper asked for it to be left at the door.
